Renault Trucks New‑Generation Powertrain: Up to 4% Fuel Savings

Renault Trucks has rolled out the brand‑new DE13 R engine and the new‑generation Optidriver gearbox to upgrade the powertrain for its T, T High, C and K series. Compared with the previous generation, these upgrades deliver up to 4% reduction in fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions. Compatible with HVO and B100 renewable fuels, the new powertrain also brings improved vehicle performance and driving comfort.

Faced with rising operating costs and growing decarbonisation demands in road transport, freight operators are seeking solutions to boost operational efficiency right away. To address these challenges, Renault Trucks has introduced the all‑new powertrain for T, T High, C and K series, combining the new DE13 R engine, next‑generation Optidriver gearbox and advanced predictive driving system.

New Powertrain: Enhanced Fuel Efficiency & Driving Comfort

The new DE13 R engine delivers a maximum power output of 540 hp and peak torque of 2 800 N·m. Built with advanced materials such as high‑strength grey cast iron and ductile iron, it achieves significantly enhanced robustness and durability. Integrated with multiple cutting‑edge technologies, it optimises combustion and minimises energy loss. It reaches a maximum in‑cylinder pressure of 250 bar, and its new fuel system fitted with an external high‑pressure fuel pump improves injection precision and engine efficiency.

The DE13 R engine comes standard with upgraded Optibrake+ engine brake power for greater driving comfort and vehicle control, especially on hilly terrain.

Paired with the engine is the new‑generation Optidriver gearbox equipped with updated control software and optimised shift logic. Shifting speed is improved by up to 20% versus the prior generation, delivering smoother gear changes.

Additional fuel‑saving technologies adopted in the new powertrain:

• Optivision+ Predictive Cruise Control: Leverages topographic data and road‑sign information to optimise gear shifts, acceleration and vehicle speed according to road conditions.
• Predictive engine start‑stop: Built on predictive cruise control, it automatically shuts down the engine during Optiroll coasting phases. Basic vehicle functions remain active, and the engine restarts instantly when required.

Complementing these upgrades are aerodynamic enhancements designed to lower air resistance and maximise fuel‑consumption benefits.

Depending on operating conditions, the new‑generation vehicles achieve up to 4% lower fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions compared with their predecessors.

For maximum energy savings and productivity, Renault Trucks offers the Smart Racer2 package, bundling all efficiency‑boosting technologies: aerodynamic optimisations, Optivision+, low‑rolling‑resistance tyres and advanced predictive powertrain management.

The DE13 R engine also complies with NNR3 noise standards to help reduce vehicle noise impact.
